Audrey Williams

Lake City – Audrey Dell (Perdue) Williams, 91, passed away Monday June 29, 2020 from natural causes in her home at Lake City. Private family services will be held. Lampe Funeral Home in Lake City is assisting the family.

Audrey was born on February 19, 1929 on a farm at Ogilvie, Minnesota, to Hazel Dell (Collins) Perdue and Robert Harvey Perdue. Audrey’s family moved to Southwest Iowa when Audrey was a baby and that is where Audrey grew up. She graduated high school from Red Oak, Iowa and attended Drake University in Des Moines. At Drake, Audrey joined the Delta Gamma sorority; she accompanied many music groups and sang jingles with a small group on a local radio station. When she graduated from Drake as a music teacher her first job was in Lake City, Iowa. Audrey taught K through High School vocal music her first year and on and off as having her children allowed. She taught generations of students in the surrounding area schools to love singing. She gave private piano lessons in her home always, was Director of Music at Lake City Union Church for many years and helped most of the other church choirs in Lake City. She accompanied students at small and large group music contests for many years and was also an adjudicator for music contest for years. She belonged to as many music clubs and groups as were available to her, and in Lake City, Entre Nous Music Club, PEO and Federated Art. She loved music and she loved sharing her talents. She also loved people, all ages! She kept in touch with so many students for all of her life. While in Lake City teaching that first year she met John Thomas (Tom) Williams from Jefferson, Iowa and they were married in June 1951. They had 63 years together before Tom passed away in 2014. To this union were born three children, Sara, Scott and Sally.

Left to mourn Audrey’s passing are her son Scott Williams (Juanita) of Iowa City; Sally Winter (Daryl) of Lake City; grandchildren Jim Williams (Jen), Sam Williams (Jaimie), Ana Williams (Nick); Stacey (Brian) Carlson, Leslie (Fuat) Aktan, Andy (Nicholle) Winter; great grandchildren Diego Williams, Brenna and Lilly Carlson, Teoman, Metehan and Denizhan Aktan, Ellyott and Clara Winter. She is also survived by adored nieces and nephews. Audrey was preceded in death by her parents, her in-laws, her husband Tom, her daughter Sara, her brother Errol Perdue and his wife Lola and her sister Roberta Maxwell and husband Maurice.
