The Graphic-Advocate to promote Chalk Your Walk, virtual museum tours
Editor's Note: Due to Gov. Kim Reynolds’ order to close down museums this past Monday, The Graphic-Advocate will not be able to provide virtual museum tours for Historic Central School in Lake City and the Calhoun County Museum in Rockwell City. The virtual tours will be postponed to a later date.
In uncertain times, many have stepped up to instill hope into their peers. It’s time that we do the same for our community.
To help alleviate some boredom and to spread the message of hope amidst the COVID-19 situation, The Graphic-Advocate has set about in asking its subscribers, supporters and local children to participate in a “Chalk Your Walk.”
The Graphic-Advocate has also scheduled virtual tours of Historic Central School and the Calhoun County Museum, set for Wednesday and Thursday afternoon, respectively. The tours, which will be livestreamed on The Graphic-Advocate’s Facebook page, are to encourage residents to visit both historical halls in the near future.
To participate in the “Chalk Your Walk,” all you need is a clean sidewalk, plenty of chalk and a positive message to share. Once your project is finished, send in a photo of the art to us at lcgraphic@iowatelecom.net or at gaeditor@windstream.net.
The Graphic-Advocate kindly asks that you submit your name (or your child’s name) and town of residence.
We encourage all of our subscribers and supporters to send in their sidewalk or driveway art, and the best art will be displayed in its April 15 edition. All submissions will be posted, as part of a free gallery on The Graphic-Advocate’s Facebook page.
At 3 p.m. on Wednesday, The Graphic-Advocate will begin its virtual museum tours with a walkthrough of Historic Central School in Lake City. Darcy Maulsby, the board president of Central School Preservation, will be on hand to offer insights and speak about the unique exhibits that Historic Central School has on display.
The Graphic-Advocate then heads up to Rockwell City for a tour of the Calhoun County Museum, which is set for 2 p.m. on Thursday. Dale Gentry and Lynne Gentry, both of the Calhoun County Historical Society, will serve as tour guides.
Both educational tours will be approximately 30 minutes long. In both sessions, Editor Tyler Anderson will be on hand and behind the camera to ask questions from viewers participating in the livestreams.
