Well survey shows few neonicotinoids

The results of water samples taken in 15 Iowa counties last fall reveal a low occurrence of neonicontinoids.
Michael Schueller, with the Iowa State Hygienic Lab said he had no particular expectations of how much of the pesticide would be found in the private well samples, but when testing showed the presence of neonicontinoids in just four of 280 samples, he was pleased. He was pleasantly surprised, too, by the lack of “quantifiable concentrations” of several other commonly used pesticides and herbicides, including atrazine and glyphosate, which is the name for one of the main compounds in Roundup.
“That was very positive,” Schueller told The Graphic-Advocate in a phone interview April 20. “We’re very excited about that.”
