Independence Day fireworks return to Twin Lakes

Calhoun County residents looking for a fireworks display close to home need to head no farther than Twin Lakes, where volunteers are again organizing the annual show.
Mary Harvey estimated between 4,000 and 5,000 people watch the show each year.
“It’s a beautiful sight on the lake,” Harvey said last week. “It shimmers on the water.”
Preparations for the show, which takes place at 10 p.m. Saturday night, begin much earlier in the afternoon. Flashing Thunder, the Mitchell-based company that sets off the fireworks, begins setup about six hours earlier, Harvey said, on the southeast corner of Featherstone Park. At that point, the trail will be closed, to keep people away from the launch site.
