William Linn

INDEPENDENCE -  William Warren Linn was born on May 19, 1957, in Carroll, the son of Harmon and Roberta (Conner) Linn. He grew up in Coon Rapids and was a 1976 graduate of Coon Rapids High School. He went on to attend the masonry program at Des Moines Area Community College and later took a job as a mason at the Badding Construction Company.  

He married Barbara Kay Truitt Nov.  9, 1979, in Elk Point, South Dakota; they later made their home in Lake City. Two children, Joel and Jonathan, were born to this union. 

He later went on to work for the family business, Linn’s Feed Service, in Coon Rapids. Bill subsequently worked at PMI as a millwright and eventually was employed as an industrial mechanic at Silgan Containers.  

Bill was a dedicated employee. In his free time, he enjoyed snowmobiling, especially taking trips west to Wyoming. In 2021, he moved to Independence to be closer to family. Bill passed away Thursday, June 29 after having been diagnosed with cancer.  

He is survived by his two sons: Joel (Tami) Linn, of Kellogg, and Jon (Shawna) Linn, of Independence; three grandchildren: Tyler and Kylie Linn and Ila Linn; a brother, Gregg (Glenda) Linn, of Glidden, and two sisters: Deb Smidt, of Coon Rapids, and Laurie (Doug) Cooper, of Holden, Missouri, along with several nieces and nephews.  

Bill is preceded in death by his parents: Harmon and Roberta Linn; two nephews: Jeremy Linn and Matthew Venteicher and a niece, Jessica Linn. 

The Reiff Family Center- Funeral Home & Crematory is assisting the family with arrangements.
