Voter turnout was up in this year’s Primary Election, Auditor Robin Batz said Friday.
In Calhoun County, 1,073 voters cast their ballots for a 16.2 percent voter turnout. Batz said in the 2014 Primary, 11.1 percent of registered voters cast ballots, for an increase of more than 5 percentage points.
Statewide, 279,124 voters cast ballots, for a 13.1 percent turnout. Iowa Secretary of State Paul Pate reported that 50,610 absentee ballots were cast in the election, setting a new record. The previous record was 44,740 in 2014.
Batz said the only hiccup on election day was a few problems with election workers being able to enter the newly required laptop passwords at the right point.
