Titans start postseason at home, face Sioux Central

Since the Iowa High School Athletic Association dropped the hint of its format for the high school football postseason, many were anxious to see where their team would land. After all, this is the year where everyone gets a spot in the playoffs.

The South Central Calhoun football team found out where they were headed in the first round of the postseason, when the IHSAA released the first two rounds of the playoff structure on Saturday afternoon. For SCC, the road ahead begins with a home date.

The Titans (5-1) will play host to Sioux Central in a Class 1A-Pod 6 matchup, with a 7 p.m. kickoff on Friday at Titan Field in Lake City. SCC went into the postseason on a high note, battering Belmond-Klemme 44-7 this past Friday night at home.

Sioux Central (2-5) limped into the postseason, going winless in district play. This past Friday, the Rebels fell in a 40-20 decision against Hinton in Sioux Rapids.

Pod 6 also consists of Jesup and blueblood Dike-New Hartford. The first round matchup sees the Wolverines (5-2) welcoming the J-Hawks (2-5) at Dike.

Going into the postseason, Dike-New Hartford shut out East Marshall, 41-0, and Jesup fell in a narrow 22-18 decision against Sumner-Fredericksburg.
