Playoff bound South Central Calhoun closed the deal on a perfect regular season with a 42-2 victory over Pocahontas Area during the final week of the district football season Friday, Oct. 19 in Pocahontas. The Titans, the 2018 Class 1A District 2 champions at 9-0 overall and 5-0 in the district, will head to the 2018 Class 1A playoffs with an opening round home match-up against West Lyon (7-2) in Lake City this Friday, Oct. 26 at 7 p.m.
“We feel extremely blessed to be in the position we are in right now,” said SCC head coach Bryan Case. “To finish the regular season undefeated, district champions and at state for the eighth time in the last nine years, is quite an accomplishment. I’m proud of our team and I’m proud of the fact that we were able to overcome a tremendous amount of adversity this year. Losing seven starters from week 3 through week 6 would be tough on any team, but our kids just found a way to get it done. However, now we need to put in all behind us and move forward. From this point one, everyone is good and we can’t afford to take any plays off. You win, you move on. You lose, and your season comes to an abrupt halt. We’ve had a special year and we want it to continue. With this team, anything is possible.”
