For the second season in a row, South Central Calhoun and Pocahontas Area met in the baseball post-season and needed extra innings to decide who would advance in the playoffs. Unfortunately for the Titans, the Indians scored the winning run in the bottom of the ninth inning on a successful squeeze play and edged SCC 3-2 in Estherville in Class 2A, District 3 semifinal action Tuesday, July 10.
South Central Calhoun finished the season at 12-11 while PAC advanced to play Estherville-Lincoln Central Saturday, July 14 in Estherville, where ELC defeated the Indians 4-3.
A season ago, SCC faced PAC in similar fashion with the Indians winning 3-1 in 10-innings on a walk-off home run. This year, the Indians Chase Boeve laid down a successful bunt attempt with the bases loaded on a squeeze play, scoring Shea Ruffridge from third bases with one out in the bottom of the ninth inning.
