Titans beat Knights in battle of ranked foes

It was the most important victory of the season last Friday night in Lake City for the host No. 9 South Central Calhoun Titans, as their varsity football squad upended No. 10 Kuemper Catholic 26-16 in a battle of top-10 ranked teams from Class 2A. With the win, SCC remained undefeated in Class 2A, District 7 play at 4-0 in the district and improved to 5-1 overall as the Titans never trailed in the squads crucial week six victory over the Knights, who are now 3-1 in the district and 4-2 overall.
“I thought our kids came out and played really well in the first half,” said SCC head coach Bryan Case. “We executed the game plan, and for the most part, we kept Kuemper in check for much of the game. We had a tough time finishing tonight, but in the end, it was all worth it. I’m happy for our kids and for our program. Tonight, we took another step in the right direction.”
South Central Calhoun scored twice in the first period and added a last-second touchdown in the second period to lead 19-0 at the break.
Chase McAlister got the Titans on the scoreboard first with a 10-yard touchdown run with 7:35 remaining in the first quarter. Zane Neubaum added the point-after kick to make it a 7-0 SCC lead.
