Smith takes over marketing, foundation and auxiliary duties for SMCH

Katie Smith has been surprised at the similarities between her old job at Buena Vista University and her new gig at Stewart Memorial Community Hospital.
At the university, Smith worked with incoming students, marketing the school to them. Her customer were adults of all ages – she worked with students who were anywhere from 20 to 60 years old, and from all types of backgrounds and socioeconomic statuses.
“It’s actually more similar than I would have anticipated,” she said.
At the hospital, she said she found she’s doing the same thing, making the case why customers, in this case potential patients, would want to choose Stewart Memorial for their health needs.
It’s a choice Smith made herself not too long ago, when she became pregnant with her son, Gunnar, who is now 9 months old.
