South Central Calhoun capitalized on six Sioux Center turnovers and rolled to a 37-7 victory over the Warriors in a 2017 Class 2A first round playoff football game in Lake City Friday, Oct. 27.
With the win, the Titans won their ninth straight contest to improve to 9-1 overall and set up a rematch of a playoff game from a year ago as SCC will face No. 1 Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley (9-1) in Hull this Friday, Nov. 3 at 7 p.m. in a Class 2A quarterfinal round playoff contest. The winner will advance to the 2017 Class 2A State Semifinal round at the UNI-DOME in Cedar Falls Saturday, Nov. 11 at 4:06 p.m.
“I’m just extremely happy for and proud of our staff and kids,” said SCC head coach Bryan Case following the playoff win over the Warriors. “I thought our team came out tonight and played the most complete game to date. We created a few turnovers, capitalized, and never really looked back from there. To get a big win like this over a very good Sioux Center team, is encouraging moving forward. We have a huge test next Friday against the No. 1 team and defending state champions, Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley, but our guys are looking forward to the challenge.”
The Titans opened up with the first possession of the contest against Sioux Center and its first scoring opportunity of the game came with 7:32 remaining in the first period on a field goal attempt try that was no good, as the SCC’s drive stalled at the Warriors 11-yard line.
