South Central Calhoun’s varsity football team took care of business in week 9 of the 2017 Class 2A, District 7 regular season by defeating rival East Sac County 35-7 in Lake City to capture the District 7 district championship at 7-0 in district play and the Titans improved to 8-1 overall.
The Titans will now host a first round match-up in the 2017 Class 2A football playoffs this Friday, Oct. 27 in Lake City at 7 p.m. with Sioux Center (6-1 district, 8-1 overall), who placed second in Class 2A, District 1 behind Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley (7-0 district, 8-1 overall). The winner of the SCC versus Sioux Center contest will face either Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley or Kuemper Catholic (6-1 district, 7-2 overall) at a site to be determined Friday, Nov. 3 at 7 p.m.
“I am so proud of this team and how far we have come,” said SCC head coach Bryan Case. “At the beginning of the year, we didn’t really know what to expect, but the kids just kept getting better and better, week in and week out. We were a work in progress all year long, but the determination to improve has really paid off. It feels good to be the district champions and moving on to state.”
Against East Sac County, the Titans scored twice in the first period and once more in the second period to build a 21-0 lead before the Raiders scored their lone touchdown late in the first half to make it a 21-7 SCC lead at the break.
