South Central Calhoun third-grade student Tyler Jackson had a favorite question to pose to business owners and employees May 12.
“Did you ever get fired?” Jackson asked at more than one of the job sites the third-grade students visited as part of a job tour around the Rockwell City square.
At Collman Realty, Shelly Hartwig told Jackson she had not ever been fired.
“Sometimes people get fired for making mistakes,” Hartwig said, adding that when she has made on-the-job errors, she is up-front and apologetic about it with her employer.
Hartwig offered information about her job – working in the insurance and real estate office and showing homes to potential buyers, as well as managing some rental units in town – with the three third-grade classes. She didn’t have to go to college to get her job, she said, but she did have to take classes to sell real estate.
