Gray skies brought rain and thunder to Lake City Thursday morning, as students returned to South Central Calhoun High School for the new school year.
Principal Randy Martin, in his opening assembly comments to high schoolers, noted classes, being held in temporary classrooms around the Lake City town square, had ended 111 days ago, a bit earlier than planned, thanks to a tornado and rain storm that damaged the high school May 10.
“With the weather outside, I hope we don’t begin like we ended,” Martin said.
Students experienced a few glitches Thursday – phone systems were out across the district until about 3 p.m., the high school’s bell system still wasn’t working, after being damaged by the tornado and teachers reported rain leaking in around a few windows.
