SCC boys take on Cougars, Lynx and GT/RA

It was a busy week on the court for the 2017-18 South Central Calhoun varsity boys basketball team last week as they hosted a pair of contests early in the week and concluded the week traveling to Ruthven for a Twin Lakes Conference contest against GT/RA. In all, SCC fell to all three opponents last week, beginning with a home non-conference contest against Manson Northwest Webster in Lake City by a 70-58 final Monday, Dec. 4, then to Webster City in Rockwell City Tuesday, Dec. 5, by a 72-58 final, while ending the week with a conference loss at Ruthven to GT/RA by a 63-45 final. SCC fell to 0-6 overall and are now 0-2 in the Twin Lakes Conference heading into action this week.
Against MNW Dec. 4, the Titans were led in scoring by Landon Schleisman with 13 points while Zane Neubaum and Jared Birks both tallied 11 against the Cougars. Matthew Clark also was in double figures in scoring against MNW with 10.
The Titans trailed the Cougars 13-12 after the first period but were down 27-18 at the half. MNW extended to a 50-32 lead after three quarters of play.
Josh Henkenius and Birks led in rebounds against MNW with five each while Matthew Clark led in steals with four and in assists with three against the Cougars.
SCC was 19-for-59 from the field and 15-for-19 from the free throw line. SCC hosted Webster City Tuesday, Dec. 5, in Rockwell City and fell to the Lynx by a 72-58 final. Webster City led 22-9 at the end of the first period and were up 37-25 at the half.
