South Central Calhoun’s varsity boys track team qualified 10 events for the 2017 Class 2A Boys State Track and Field meet to be held this week at the State Qualifying Meet held Thursday, May 11, at Panorama High School in Panora.
“Our kids ran very well last night and in doing so, qualified at least six events to state,” said SCC head boys track coach Bryan Case Thursday after the meet. “Our team also set 10 new personal records and three new school records. It looks like we’re peaking at the right time and if we stay focused, we could have a great weekend at state.”
The six automatic state meet berths at the state qualifying meet included Kody Case in the 100 meter dash (11.33 seconds, second place), Chase McAlister in the 800 meter run (2:01.84, first place), the sprint medley team of Tanner Macke, Jared Birks, Case and McAlister (1:37.21, second place), the distance medley relay team of Macke, McAlister, Nic Englin and Spencer Moon (3:43.56, second place), the shuttle hurdle relay team of Mason Merkley, Brandon Assman, Hunter Muhlbauer and Josh Van Hulzen (1:01.27, second place), and Colton Bahr in the high jump (6-feet, 4-inches, second place).
