SCC boys golf team places sixth at sectionals

South Central Calhoun’s varsity boys golf team competed at the 2018 Class 2A Boys Sectional Golf Tournament Friday, May 11 at the Carroll Country Club east of Carroll and placed sixth overall with a team score of 381 strokes for the 18-hole tournament. Top finisher for the Titans was Zane Neubaum in 10th place with an 87.
The top three teams to advance to the district round to be held at the Landsmeer Golf Course in Orange City this Thursday, May 17 will be Kuemper Catholic (316), Ogden (363) and OA-BCIG (366). Meet medalist for the sectional tournament at Carroll was Cole Collison of Kuemper Catholic with a 74 while his teammate, Nate Mertz was second with a 79.
Neubaum had a 44 to open up the tournament and closed out his final nine holes with a 43 to finish with his 87. SCC’s Jacob Schultz had a 49 in his front nine and a 46 in the back to end the day with a 95. Jacob Nicholson of the Titans finished with a 98 as he had a 49 on both the front nine and back nine of holes. Kyler Steinborn rounded out the team score with his 101 as he opened with a 58 in the first nine holes and then closed out strong with a 43 on his final nine.
