SCC baseball squad tops WBM in opener

In South Central Calhoun’s varsity baseball season opener in Gilmore City Wednesday, May 23, the Titans opened up the 2018 campaign with a 6-2 victory over the Wolverines. Kyler Steinborn started for the Titans and picked up the victory as he went six innings, struck out 12 batters while walking six and allowing no hits. Chase McAlister pitched the bottom of the seventh, and the Wolverines collected their first and only hit of the contest while also plating two runs. McAlister would allow one hit, one walk and two earned runs while striking out two WBM batters.
SCC scored once in the top of the first, once more in the third, twice more in the fourth, and then added a single run in both the top of the sixth and two of the seventh innings.
The Titans collected seven hits as a team, led by Chase McAlister with a 2-for-3 effort with two runs scored, a pair of stolen bases and a walk. Chase Scheidegger also had two hits as he was 2-for-4 with two runs scored.
Zane Neubaum went 1-for-2 with an RBI and a walk while Bennett Lee also was 1-for-2 with and RBI and a walk and Blake McAlister finished 1-for-2 with a pair of walks. As a team, SCC collected 10 walks against the Wolverines.
