U.S. Sen. Joni Ernst’s answer to a question about ending the Affordable Care Act – the questioner called the act Obamacare – probably wasn’t what many members of the Rockwell City Chamber of Commerce were hoping to hear.
“We don’t want to see anybody fall through the cracks,” Ernst, Iowa’s junior senator, told the group during a gathering at the Rockwell City Community Room Feb. 18.
She referred to Americans who have followed the act’s requirements and signed up for health insurance through state and federal exchanges. Ernst said she has signed on to a bill that would give people a 180-day window to find “market-based” health insurance in the event that Congress could pass bills getting rid of the ACA.
“Unfortunately, that’s probably not going to happen in the next few years,” she said.
