In 2006, Nick Graham of Truman, Minn., became the youngest grocery store owner in America, when he bought his hometown store at the age of 17.
“It just seemed like a good idea,” he said, explaining why he bought the store. “It was a challenge.”
Graham doesn’t own that store anymore, but last week, he took on two new stores – Southside Grocery in Rockwell City and Affiliated Foods in Manson. The Calhoun County stores join three others he owns, in Rolfe, Ackley and Rockwell.
“Rockwell City and Manson are close (to Rolfe),” he said of his decision to purchase the two Calhoun County stores.
He has known the former Southside Grocery owners for awhile, he said, and when they said they wanted to pursue other opportunities, he decided the time was right to expand his own business.
Graham is bringing some new ideas to the local stores – he wants to see if he can implement online ordering, through a smartphone app, perhaps, as well as extend the kitchen hours and the fresh meat department.
