Moon wins state qualifying meet, heads to state

For the third time in as many season’s, South Central Calhoun’s Spencer Moon will be ending his season at the Class 2A state cross country meet. Moon, a junior for the Titans boys cross country team this fall, won the 2017 Class 2A State Qualifying Meet boy’s individual championship with a first place time of 17 minutes, 25.36 seconds hosted by the Titans in Lake City Thursday, Oct. 19.
Overall, the Titan boys were fifth at a team with 178 points as SCC hosted the meet at the Lake City Country Club. Advancing to the state meet as a team were Sheldon (67), Okoboji (72) and Aplington-Parkersburg (78) on the boys side, and on the girls side were Shenandoah (60), Okoboji (64) and Aplington-Parkersburg (95).
Moon will be advancing to the 2017 Class 2A State Cross Country Championships Saturday, Oct. 28 at Lakeside Municipal Golf Course north of Fort Dodge at 1:30 p.m. for the 2A boys race. Last season, Moon medaled at the Class 2A meet in 2016 with a fourth place finish in 16:29.8 as a sophomore. In 2015, Moon was 46th overall in 17:43.9 in the Class 2A field at state in his freshman season.
