South Central Calhoun Middle School students offered their thanks and appreciation to military veterans and men and women in active service Friday.
“You made it so people know heroes don’t always wear capes,” Keira Hammen said. “You made us safe. You made us free.”
Emma Englin addressed her letter to veterans to some specific veterans – her great-grandfathers.
“I can’t imagine what it was like when you went to serve your country,” Englin said.
“Today is your day,” Kassidy Haffner said. “Thanks for being a hero to all Americans. You are the definition of a hero.”
The girls, all seventh-grade students, read their letters to a full gym – 113 veterans signed in for the program, and parents and grandparents filled the bleachers.
