Mid-America Publishing and Printing’s coordinator for its custom printing department is adjusting to the challenges and opportunities of the job as she gets fully settled in the department.

With graduation season just ahead, it is a busy time for Jordyn Anderson.

Anderson coordinates the custom printing department at Mid-America Publishing’s home office, located in Hampton.

“I am currently working on a lot of stuff for graduation,” said Anderson. “Programs, invites, party banners, yard signs, scholarship certificates, senior photo prints. May is a busy month for this with people rushing to get everything in order.”

Key offerings range from wedding bundles to posters and logo redesigns as well as a range of graduation products and everything from menus and envelopes to flyers and brochures.

“This department offers a huge range of items, we can print almost any idea or thought a client might have,” said Anderson.

Indeed, some of what Anderson can offer might surprise people. Along with flyers, brochures, posters and products for special occasions, the custom printing department offers customized specialty items, such as t-shirts, cups, pens, tote bags and Koozies.

It is something of a dream job for Anderson who has enjoyed this line of work for years, since she was a kid.

“My love and passion for design started in high school when I worked with the yearbook class and designed the yearbook my senior year,” said Anderson. “I felt like I was able to open up and be as creative as I wanted to be. As I didn’t follow my passion the first year I went to college, I ended up switching to Bellevue University and studied Graphic Design completely online.”

“This was definitely hard at first because of the dedication and discipline it was being online,” Anderson continued. “But looking back this helped me be on top of deadlines quickly and take a lot of situations and deal with them rather than someone always telling me the answer. After a long three and a half years, I graduated in May 2020 with my Bachelor of Arts in Graphic Design.”

The job is a fun one for Anderson, as it allows her to be creative and broadcasts the hard work that she puts into a project to a wide audience in a unique manner.

“What I like most is getting to design different invites for weddings, birthdays, graduations and banners,” said Anderson. “It’s a cool feeling when you know that the work you did is out there and then people are seeing that and come in and refer to the other work you did and it’s pretty awesome.”

Anderson also shared that working with people is a joy for her.

“My favorite would be working with my clients, getting to know their vision and making it come true for them,” said Anderson.

Anderson is the heart of the department, working alongside Viviana Moreno, who works as a finisher in the department. However, Anderson is quick to credit many others who help her out during this busy stretch of time.

“Many others in the company help me out in my department when I need it,” Anderson said. “We all work as a team.”
