McAlister, Goodman advance to district meet

A pair of South Central Calhoun wrestlers emerged from the Class 2A sectional meet hosted by Humboldt High School Saturday, Feb. 3 in Humboldt. Junior Chase McAlister won the 152-pound sectional title and teammate Brody Goodman, a senior at 160-pounds, took home second place. Both have advanced to the Class 2A District meet hosted by Webster City this Saturday, Feb. 10 for a shot at the 2018 Class 2A State Wrestling Tournament in Des Moines.
Overall, the Titans placed fifth as a team at the sectional meet in Humboldt with 121.5 points. Sectional champions were Clarion-Goldfield/Dows with 256.5 points and Algona was second with 193 as both the Cowboys and Bulldogs advanced to the regional dual tournament as well Tuesday, Feb. 6.
McAlister (45-3) was 2-0 on the day in Humboldt as he defeated Logan Moser of Humboldt by technical fall by a 17-1 victory in the semifinal round at 152 while closing out the tournament as champion at 152 with a win over Austin Chase of Algona by fall in 4 minutes, 19 seconds.
Goodman (44-7) was second at 160 as he was 1-1 on the day. He opened up with a semifinal victory over Levi Naeve of Humboldt by a 13-2 major decision while Goodman fell to sectional champion Reymundo Vasquez of Clarion-Goldfield/Dows by a narrow 3-1 decision in the championship match at 160.
