Marylyn Gillespie of Lake City will again see her words in print in the annual poetry anthology “Lyrical Iowa.”
This year, Gillespie’s submission looks at the waxing and waning of a household, in a work she titled “Things Change.” The poem follows her own adult life, from her first move that needed only “two wagons and a pick-up truck,” to her senior years, when now what she needs most is a “small space, filled with books, and one extra chair, for a friend to use.”
Gillespie said her father commented on the phenomena of accumulating things and space when her children grew and moved out of the house.
