A team of Lake City cooks took first place at the annual Dell Blair Memorial Chili Cookoff in Lake City Sunday.
Paul Bixenstine, Jason Bixenstine, Mark Hungate, Maria Bixenstine and Barb and Dennis Hedin comprised Knooper Chili, which won this year’s trophy.
Jason Bixenstine said the secret to the award-winning recipe was hard work.
Second place in the contest went to the team Better than Brad, while third place went to Kenzie Addison.
Anthony and Jeri Vanderheiden of Lake City won first place and the People’s Choice award for the inaugural smoked meat competition, besting one competitor.
