ISU class helps kids take a safe look at the eclipse

The rain cleared and the clouds parted just enough Aug. 21 afternoon for Calhoun County residents to take a glimpse at the solar eclipse.
Iowa State University Extension helped about a dozen county students safely look at the moon blocking about 93 percent of the sun from a vantage point in Rockwell City.
“It would blind you if you looked (too) long,” Redge Potts of Lytton said, explaining why he was making a pinhole viewer with a cardboard box.
Samantha Potts said she was excited to test out her viewer.
“I wanted to see the eclipse,” she said. “I’ve never seen one before.”
