IPTV’s Wardell entertains young readers at J.J. Hands Library

Iowa Public Television’s Dan Wardell had a big request for young readers July 25 in Lohrville.
“Hold on to your hair,” he told the crowd of kids in the Lohrville Community Center. “Today, when you go home, I want you to go up to your TVs and I want you to turn them off.”
Yes, the state television host, who talks with kids between IPTV cartoons, even though he works in television, he wanted kids to step away from the screens.
“Instead, I want you to use your imagination,” he said. “I want you to go outside and play. Most important, I want you to read a good book.”
Then Wardell, wearing his trademark purple shirt and yellow cape, led children and adults in a singing storytime. Wardell would warble words, and listeners would sing them back. The children were quick to pick up on his actions, too, and put their whole bodies into following along.
