Elementary students sharpen music skills at camp

Two dozen students paused after performing an upbeat song on the South Central Calhoun Middle School stage.
Music teacher Judy Panning approached them, with one question.
“You keep saying ‘lap,’ she said, asking if that was the word they were actually singing.
No, the students responded. They were saying “clap,” but the hard “c” sound wasn’t being heard.
Panning offered a bit of instruction, and the students tested the new way of signing the word. This time, “clap” echoed clearly through the auditorium.
