From 7 a.m to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, voters throughout Iowa dropped by their respective polling locations and casted their ballots for the 2021 municipal and school district elections. This was no different for voters residing in Calhoun County, who decided on who would lead their city councils, school boards and other positions of civil service.

When the unofficial results came in at 9:40 p.m. on Tuesday evening from the Office of Iowa Secretary of State Paul Pate, plenty of familiar faces and several new faces were selected. The Calhoun County Board of Supervisors will make voting official when they canvass and accept results, which will take place next Tuesday at the Calhoun County Courthouse in Rockwell City.

Voters within the South Central Calhoun Community School District selected Ryan Hammen (District 1) and Keaton Hildreth (District 2) for the district's Board of Directors. Hammen beat out Brandon Wilson and Kevin Machovec, as Hildreth was picked over Neal Finley and Michelle Schwartz.

Incumbent Nick Spencer, running as an at-large candidate, was reinstalled to the school board.

Lake City, which saw one of the more contested council races in Calhoun County, saw two new faces capture seats. Councilor Nick Gorden was re-elected with 235 votes, while newcomers Adam Wilson (229 votes) and Scott Bruns (219 votes) beat out a full field made up of fellow challengers and incumbents. The field consisted of challenger Tiffany Green (190 votes), challenger Nicholle Winter (134 votes), incumbent Doug Filmer (130 votes), incumbent Tami Green (74 votes) and challenger Shaleena Janssen (74 votes).

Overall, the Lake City council election had 1,288 voters cast their ballots.

Mayor Phil Heinlen was successful in his re-election campaign in Rockwell City, while Jeff Fistler and Scott Porter join the council. Councilor Jim Rokes regained his seat as an at-large candidate.

Lytton saw Mayor Jeff Ellerbrock go uncontested, and re-elected Paul Toms, Larry Coon, Jeff Townsend and Colten Riley. Nicole Meyer was also voted to the Lytton City Council.

In Manson, Mayor Dave Anderson went uncontested in his re-election bid. Within the Manson City Council, voters gave the nod to incumbents Mark Egli, Steve Smothers and Dennis Graffunder for the council's three open seats. This field also consisted of Eileen Meyer and Don Westering.

Brittany Bush was voted to Manson's Park Board, beating out write-in candidates.

Lohrville saw Jill Parker and Kathy Roller regain their spots on the city council, while Cindy Loots was elected as the new mayor of Pomeroy. Audra Rozenboom, Adam Brown and Brock Hinners will join as members of the Pomeroy City Council. Barbra Hinners was picked over Daniel Rosa to fill the at-large spot on the Pomeroy council.

There was a close race for the mayor seat in Farnhamville, as councilor Troy Jepsen beat out Reggie Kopecky via a 12-vote margin. Alicia Morrow and Christopher Adams II gained Farnhamville's at-large seats on its city council. Collin Bauch also vied for one of the two Farnhamville council seats.

Brittney Pearson also filled in the at-large seat on the Farnhamville City Council.

Jamie Hanlon was picked to be Mayor of Lanesboro, alongside councilors Sheila Young, Wanda Batta and a write-in candidate.
