Doug Johnson

Douglas “Jugs” Johnson, 67, died on Wednesday, July 21, 2021 at Trinity Regional Hospital in Fort Dodge. Graveside services will be held at a later date. Lampe & Powers Funeral Home is assisting the family.

Douglas Dwight Johnson was born on June 25, 1954 in Lake City, Iowa to Dwight and Frankie (Blair) Johnson. He graduated from Lake City High School in 1972 then joined the United States Army. While in the Army, Jugs was a member of the Old Guard in Washington D.C. After his discharge, he returned to Iowa and attended Iowa Central Community College in Fort Dodge, then transferred to Iowa State University where he completed his Bachelor’s Degree in Animal Science.

Jugs farmed with his father, Dwight, and also worked for many years as a carpenter for Kastle Construction in Lidderdale. He was a member of the American Legion Post 31 in Lake City and also was a longtime football referee for the IHSAA.

Jugs is survived by his father Dwight Johnson of Lake City; his special friend Susan Dudley of Rockwell City; “granddaughter” Taliya Kock; brothers Jeff (Kathy) Johnson of Lake City, Nick (Jane) Johnson and Perry (Jill) Johnson of Yetter; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother Frankie Johnson.
