City elections in four small towns will be moved to larger precincts

Changes are coming to voters for the November city elections in Yetter, Jolley, Rinard and Knierim.
Precincts in those towns will be combined with larger, neighboring cities – Yetter with Lake City, Jolley with Pomeroy and Rinard and Knierim with Somers, Auditor Robin Batz said earlier this month. She said in Yetter, which has fewer than 20 registered voters, only about 10 people actually cast ballots in the 2015 city elections, but the city still pays about $300 for three election workers to stay at the precinct for nine hours on election day.
Percentage-wise, turnout in towns like Yetter isn’t terrible – half or more than half of registered voters took the time to cast ballots. But with the overall low numbers, it isn’t financially feasible to keep the sites open, at least for the city elections, Batz said.
City clerks in the small towns agreed.
