For Cindy Carstens, who was born near Lake City and grew up going to Stewart Memorial Community Hospital for treatment, working for the hospital has been a lot like coming home.
On Friday, Carstens was announced as the hospital’s new Chief Executive Officer, replacing Heather Cain, who announced her resignation last month.
“I like management and I like leadership,” Carstens said Friday afternoon. “I want to be able to help keep a hospital in our community.”
Her goal, she said, is to keep the hospital functioning at a high level.
Carstens said she doesn’t anticipate any major changes at the hospital, for now, though she would like to continuing raising the hospital’s profile in the communities it serves, and continue to partner with other community organizations to improve health throughout the region.
She officially takes over the position July 16.
