On Friday night, Capri Theatre Board Member Mary Sporleder and volunteer Michele Deluhrey stood behind the concession stand counter, waiting for moviegoers to arrive.
The Capri Theatre was showing “Gifted,” and volunteers were a little worried it would be a slow night, not because of the feature, but because the theatre was competing with South Central Calhoun High School’s Homecoming football game.
Then, just a few minutes after 7 p.m., people began arriving. Sporleder, who has been volunteering with the theatre and the board since its reopening in 2003, watched the line and noted she knew very few of the ticket buyers that night.
It’s not an unusual situation, she said. The theatre may be Lake City’s pride and joy, but on many nights, Sporleder has found more out-of-county license plates than Calhoun County plates surrounding the Lake City square. Those out-of-towners come from Carroll, Sac, Webster and Greene counties.
