Following a closed session between the Calhoun County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday, Calhoun County Attorney Tina Meth-Farrington has filed a petition to remove Sheriff Scott Anderson from office, according to a news release sent out on Tuesday afternoon.

This was in the wake of this past weekend's events, where Anderson was jailed and charged with domestic abuse assault and "assault on persons of a certain occupation." Anderson, who was arrested this past Saturday night and released this past Sunday afternoon, pleaded not guilty to both charges during his initial appearance to Magistrate Judge William Habhab this past Monday.

"The Calhoun County Attorney has filed a Petition for Removal from Office pursuant to Chapter 66 of the Iowa Code to remove Sheriff Scott Anderson from his elected position," the release said. "This action is not taken lightly or with malice. Sheriff Anderson, through his recent actions, has lost the trust and respect of fellow law enforcement and the community at large and cannot effectively carry out his duties as Sheriff of Calhoun County."

According to the release, questions regarding this action may be directed to the Calhoun County Public Information Officer, Carl Legore, at (712) 887-1824 or the Calhoun County Attorney at (712) 297-7829.
