Buhl advocates for children through CASA program

A few years ago, Sandie Buhl was reading through a regional newspaper when an editorial caught her attention.
The article was about the Court Appointed Special Advocate program, a nationwide organization that trains volunteers to work with children who have cases being managed by the state human services and child welfare departments and going through the legal system.
“I have a passion for abused and neglected children,” the Rockwell City resident said during a recent interview with The Graphic-Advocate. “I think the Lord just dropped this in my lap.”
Buhl, who was working at Iowa Central Community College at the time, reached out to local CASA staff. She cleared the background evaluations, took the training and became an officer of the court. She started with just one case and, since retiring, now handles a few more at once.
