Mary Conrad

   Mary Conrad, 90, of Lake City, passed away Oct. 2, 2024, at Accura Healthcare in Lake City. Mary Terese was born Oct. 23, 1933, to parents Conrad and Genevieve (Elbert) Alig. She grew up in Whittemore, where she graduated high school from Presentation Academy in 1951.

   Mary was united in marriage Aug. 8, 1953 to Donald Eugene Conrad at St. Michael’s Church in Whittemore.  This union was blessed with five children: Janet, Dan, Jim, Mark and Jane. Mary worked various jobs throughout her life, including working at a bank, owning Conrad Motel in Lake City and managing Amber Inn Motel in LeMars. She also loved volunteering her time and being a part of the community. Mary was a member of the Monday Club, Bridge Club, Birthday Club and the Red Hats. In her free time, she enjoyed going golfing, playing bridge and cards, and spending time with family and friends.

   Mary’s family would like to acknowledge the Accura staff and Gentiva Hospice for the special care they provided. 

   Those left to cherish her memory include her children: Janet (David) Walkup, of Marion; Dan (Connie) Conrad, of Cedar Falls; Mark (Mona) Conrad, of Friendswood, Texas, and Jane (Tim) Dittberner ,of New Prague, Minnesota; grandchildren: Todd (Christi) Walkup, Kari (Wes) Cooling, Tom (Ashley) Walkup, Abby (Jon) Relph, Jeff Conrad, Ally Conrad, Christine (Josh) Hammond, Samantha (Garrett) Niederkorn, Jake Conrad, Morgyn (Dillon) Massow, Mason Conrad, Max Conrad, Sam (Ashley) Dittberner, Alex Dittberner, Annie (Jake) Bushey; 22 great-grandchildren; special friend Jeanne Devine; many nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.

   Mary was preceded in death by her husband Donald Conrad, parents Conrad & Genevieve Alig, son Jim Conrad, eight sisters: Genevieve, Lee, Freda, Mayme, Emelene, Irene, Aurellia, Carmella, and Donna, and one brother, Leland. 

   The Funeral Service will be at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, Oct. 22, at St. Mary Catholic church in Lake City, Iowa. The burial will be in the St. Mary Catholic Cemetery in Lake City immediately following the service. The visitation will be 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., before the service at the church. Lampe and Powers Funeral Home of Lake City is in charge of these arrangements.
