Moon captures third Athlete of the Week honor at Simpson College
Since he had stepped foot in the Indianola campus, Spencer Moon has been a vital asset for the Simpson College men’s cross country team.
For the third time this season, the Lake City native and South Central Calhoun alumnus was named the college's Athlete of the Week for the period ending Oct. 27.
According to the Nov. 2 news release, Moon won the Coe Triangular on Sept. 24 with a time of 25:15.0. In the field of 57 runners, the sophomore finished 16 seconds ahead of second place. As a team, Simpson ended first overall with a team score of 25 to defeat Coe and Luther.
Moon ran his career best on Oct. 10, when the Storm finished second at the Dan Huston Triangular in Waverly. Moon finished fourth overall with a time of 25:05.4, which trimmed nearly 75 seconds off his previous best in an 8K.
The sophomore aided the Storm in defeating Central, and became the first American Rivers Conference runner to land within the top six when competing against Wartburg.
Moon has spearheaded the Storm runners in each race so far this season.
Moon is keep leading the Storm, as they will participate in the A-R-C Cross Country Championships, slated for 3 p.m. on Saturday in Pella. Central College will host the event.
