IHSAA, IGHSAU release abridged spring schedules

When Gov. Kim Reynolds called for schools to remain closed until April 30, it appeared that the spring sports season – with the South Central Calhoun track and golf teams in that lot – would end before it had a chance to start.

However, the Iowa High School Athletics Association and the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union have formulated plans to salvage the spring season.

This past Monday, the IHSAA and IGHSAU released a shortened sports schedule for track & field, golf, tennis and soccer.

The Titans, along with a multitude of high school athletic teams, may begin practice on May 1, with their first competition date set for May 4. The lone exception is soccer, with a first competition date of May 8.

The State Qualifying Meets for track & field have been pushed back to May 28, with the Iowa State Track & Field Meet set for June 4 through June 6. The locations of the State Qualifying Meets are the same as originally scheduled, and the State Meet is still slated for Drake Stadium in Des Moines.

For boys’ golf, the Sectional tournaments will take place on May 29 followed by the District meets on June 5. The IGHSAU slated its regional tournaments for May 26 and June 1. Those locations of those competitions are yet to be determined.

The Iowa High School State Golf Tournaments are set for June 8 and June 9 for the girls, and June 11 and June 12 for the boys.

This past Friday, the IHSAA and IGHSAU moved back the start of baseball and softball practice to May 18. The first games of the summer sports season are slated to begin on June 1.
