William “Bill” Kurth

William “Bill” Kurth, 83, died Tuesday, September 28, 2021 at Stewart Memorial Community Hospital in Lake City.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, October 4, 2021 at Lampe & Powers Funeral Home in Lake City with burial in the Lake City Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at Lampe & Powers Funeral Home.

William Dale Kurth was born on Feb. 1, 1938 in Lake City, Iowa to Rene and Mary Kathryn (Karn) Kurth. He graduated from Lake City High School in 1956, from the University of Iowa in 1959, and then the University of Iowa Law School in 1962. On Feb. 14, 1959, Bill married Karen Burk at the Presbyterian Church in Lake City. He served in the National Guard and also ROTC while at the University of Iowa then he joined the U.S. Air Force, serving from 1962 to 1965. After his military service, he began practicing law in Carroll then in Lake City where he owned Kurth Law Firm.

Bill was a member of Kiwanis in Carroll; he was deacon and treasurer at the Wall Lake Baptist Church; and a member of a Bible study in Lake City that met for over 25 years. He was a member of Carroll Gun Club, and the Iowa State Bar Association since 1962 where he served on the board of Law Examiners for several years. Bill was currently serving as a board member for The Berean Call and Samaritan Ministries, Int. He enjoyed attending Bible Prophecy Conferences and also the Oak Tree Opry in Anita. He enjoyed yard work, gardening, shooting, motorcycles, boating, water skiing, snow skiing, and he had his pilot’s license and enjoyed flying. Bill especially loved the five trips he was able to take to Israel over the years.

Bill is survived by his wife, Karen, of Lake City; son Ron (Sharon) of Liberty, South Carolina; daughter Jody (Chris) Windschitl of Lake City; grandsons Adam & Matthew Windschitl, Mike, Wesley, Tyler and Zach Kurth; great-granddaughters Anna, Addy, Caitlyn and Audrey; brothers Don (Joan) of Bull Head City, Arizona and Jim (Sue) of Arvada, Colorado; and sister Mary Kay Litzel of Ames.

He was preceded in death by his parents; grandson Jeremiah Windschitl; brother Robert Kurth; and sisters Kasandra Heim and Lois Kurth.
