Steven Michael Frohling

Steven Michael Frohling, “Steve”, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, Oct. 14, 2024, at the age of 67 in Grove, Oklahoma. Born April 13, 1957 in Emmetsburg, he graduated from Lohrville Community School in 1975. He married his bride in Clare on a sweltering day in August 1979.  Steve was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, son, and brother.

Steve's life was marked by a deep dedication to his family and his work. He began his career farming alongside his father in Iowa, a passion that remained with him throughout his life. His commitment to agriculture was evident through his involvement with the Iowa Young Farmers Association and his roles as Vice President and President of the Clarke County Farm Bureau. He went on to accept a position as a maintenance mechanic at PDM Steel Factory, which later became McDermott Int'l, where he dedicated 30 years of service before retiring in January of 2021. He was also a proud member of the Iron Workers Union.

Steve and his wife achieved their lifelong dream to retire on a lake in July 2021 when they moved to Monkey Island on Grand Lake.  After the first year, he officially declared himself an “Okie”. Despite describing himself as a recluse, Steve was secretly a social butterfly. He was always the first to lend a hand in his neighborhood. Everyone knew that if something broke, not only would Steve know how to fix it, he likely had the tools and the parts on hand – if not several of each. His hobbies included camping, boating, fishing, gardening, flowers, woodworking and watching his YouTube videos. He was a student of life and shared his extensive knowledge with anyone who asked him to share. He loved exploring his new home on Grand Lake with his wife on their pontoon boat and taking his grandkids fishing when they came to visit.

Steve's legacy is one of steadfast service, community involvement, and a life richly lived with quiet humility and persistent care for others. His presence will be profoundly missed by all who loved him.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Michael and Bernece (Tapper) Frohling and sister, Christine Frohling.

Left to cherish Steve’s memory, his wife of 45 years, Anna Frohling, of Monkey Island; daughter, Christine Hilton (Jacob), of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and son, David Frohling (Megan,) of Peculiar, Missouri; grandchildren, Conner Williams, Jayden Frohling, Jaxon Frohling, Sloan Frohling and Lucy Molyneaux; sisters, Debra Tvrdik (Sam), of Slater; Janel Riley (Rod), of Shell Knob, Missouri, and brother, Nicholas Frohling, of Springbrook; along with many loving nieces, nephews and friends.

A service to celebrate Steve’s life was set for 10:30 a.m. Monday, October 21, at Nichols-Stephens Funeral Chapel. The service will be live streamed on the funeral home Facebook page. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the family for a memorial to be determined at a later date.
