Mediacom announces new fiber network, open house for Pomeroy
FORT DODGE – In a news release sent out on Dec. 3, Mediacom Communications announced today that the company is in the final steps of activating its newly-built fiber network that brings state-of-the-art broadband service to homes and businesses in Pomeroy, Iowa.
The Calhoun County community joins the ranks of the more than 315 Gigabit communities Mediacom serves across Iowa.
A community open house will be held on Tuesday, December 14, to provide residents with a hands-on view of the services Mediacom plans to deliver.
The Open House event will be held from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 14 at the Pomeroy Mall, 114 S. Ontario Street. Local Mediacom employees will be present to demonstrate the company’s broadband and digital video service offerings.
Initial new customer installations are expected to be complete by Christmas.
“Mediacom chose to make this investment to offer Pomeroy residents the super-fast internet and cutting-edge services that we deliver to customers in Pocahontas, Rockwell City, Manson and around Twin Lakes,” said Mediacom Operations Director Jeff Anfinson. “Gig Internet will provide a large amount of bandwidth to a home network – allowing multiple users to surf, stream, download and game at the same time.”
The new network reaches over 450 Pomeroy area homes and businesses and provides substantially faster internet service options. Customers can select speeds as fast as the 1 Gigabit-per-second downloads included with Mediacom’s Xtream 1 Gig internet – a speed 20 to 40 times faster than the typical speeds available from other service providers in the area.
“Today, people want to connect dozens of internet-dependent devices for everything from home security to smart-home appliances and entertainment,” Anfinson added. “Robust connectivity is essential, and to see what Mediacom’s Xtream internet can do, we encourage people to come to our open house at the Pomeroy Mall on Dec. 14.”
Mediacom built 10 miles of new fiber optics to connect Pomeroy homes and businesses to its telecommunications network. The project was privately funded by the company’s capital investment of approximately $900,000.
Construction began in early summer. Mediacom complemented Pomeroy city officials for a quick response with permit requests and other processes involved in network construction.
