Marvin ‘Buck’ Edson

Marvin Lee (Buck) Edson, 87, was born in New Hampton Jan. 14, 1936. His family later moved to Rockwell City, where he graduated from high school in 1954.

After graduating Buck volunteered for the draft.  An infantryman, he was sent to Korea near the 38th parallel. After his discharge Corporal Edson returned to Rockwell City where he and Roberta Gail “Roe” Harrison found each other and began their life together marrying July 5, 1957. To this union four children were born: Shelly, Rebecca, Amy and Jacob.

After decades in the Teamsters Union, Buck retired in 2000. He and Roe then traveled extensively and wintered at their condo in Arizona until health no longer allowed them to travel. 

Left to cherish his memory is his wife Roberta, daughter Rebecca Berg (Monte) and daughters Brittany and Brooke, daughter Amy Van Patten (Nick) and their children Nicholas and Kelly Muhlenbruck, son Jacob Edson (Sarah) and children William, Natalie and Rachel, son-in-law Fred Hagenmaier, children Lucas Haffner,  Rhiannon Osborne and beloved family and friends. 

He is proceeded in death by his daughter Shelly Hagenmaier and grandson Jack Muhlenbruck.

A celebration of life will Thursday, March 23 at the Merle Hay Chapel (4400 Merle Hay Road, Des Moines) at 10:30 a.m. followed by a light luncheon. There will be a Military Honors Ceremony at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery at 2 p.m. to further commemorate his life. 

The family requests that memorial contributions be donated in loving memory to the Rocky Mountain Down Syndrome Association.
