John Loeck

John Michael Loeck, age 77, of Trumbull, Connecticut, passed away on Jan. 6, 2022.

The funeral home would like to extend its thanks and gratitude to the Physicians, Nurses, and other healthcare staff of Yale New Haven Hospital for the exceptional care of John and his family.

He was born in San Francisco, California, to the late Willis and Laurella Loeck. Born in San Francisco, John spent his formative years in Lake City, where much of his family still resides. He graduated from Westview High School in Lake City as the valedictorian of his class and then went on to matriculate from the University of Iowa in Iowa City, Iowa in 1968.

He was commissioned as an officer in the Air Force, spending four years as a Deputy Commander, and then later as a Commander, of a Minuteman (ICBM) Crew in North Dakota. He left the air force in 1972 to attend the University of Washington where he acquired his Masters in Business Administration. Upon graduating, he embarked on a long career at GTE, entering their Financial Executive Development Program in 1973 and retiring in 1998 as a Strategic Planner.

John’s most lasting contribution to the world can be found in his support and stewardship of his family. He was an exemplary father. He set clear boundaries and expectations, but also exercised restraint, ensuring his children had an opportunity to chart their own course, make their own mistakes, and ultimately, follow in his footsteps. For his children, he was the first person to be notified of both successes and failures. His unconditional love and supportive reception of both momentous and mundane news will be terribly missed.

Survivors include his three devoted children, Shannon Loeck (Jarrod Viens), Brady Loeck (Claire) and Jonathan Loeck (Meredith); two brothers Charles Loeck (Nicki) and Tom Loeck (Nancy); one sister Deb Sporleder (Duane) and brother-in-law Dwight Dial. He leaves six cherished grandchildren Mary, Peregrine, Harriett, Irving, George and Ottelie. He is also survived by nephews Ethan and Andy and niece, Hannah.

He was predeceased by his sister, Jane Dial.
