Daniel J. Buenting

Daniel J. Buenting, age 68, of Pomeroy, passed away on Saturday, February 5, 2022, at the Pocahontas Community Hospital in Pocahontas, Iowa.

A Celebration of Life Visitation took place from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Feb. 10 at Powers Funeral Home - Pomeroy. Burial will take place at a later date at Union Cemetery in Pomeroy, Iowa.

Daniel Jon Buenting was born on December 14, 1953, in Fort Dodge, Iowa. He was the son of Martin and Bertha (Leners) Buenting. Dan was educated in Pomeroy Schools. Following his education, he began work at Iowa Industrial Hydraulics near Pocahontas.

On August 25, 1973, Dan was married to Janet Schultz in Manson, Iowa. Together, they were blessed with two children, Heather and Jamie. The couple later divorced. After his time at IIH, Dan worked for the City of Pomeroy in the water and sewer department. Dan went on to attend the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy in Sheldon, which began his career as a police officer for the City of Pomeroy. He eventually became Pomeroy Chief of Police, retiring in 2009.

Dan loved being outdoors and was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, his dogs and being by the water. In his younger years, he especially enjoyed camping with his children.

Survivors include his favorite daughter, Heather (Chad) Maulsby of Rockwell City; his loving girlfriend, Vicki Bachman of Pomeroy; grandchildren, Jared Maulsby, A.J. Maulsby, Ethan Buenting and Kalie Buenting; honorary granddaughter, Chloe Stampka; a brother, Dave Buenting of Fort Dodge; sisters, Corrine Bachman of Fort Dodge and Judy Whitfield of Leesville, Louisiana and daughter-in-law, Amanda Buenting of Farnhamville.

Dan was preceded in death by his parents; favorite son, Jamie Buenting; brothers, LuVerne Buenting and Loren Buenting and a sister, Betty Ann Buenting.
