Bev Bernholtz

Beverly Ann Bernholtz, 93, of Lake City, passed away at home on Thursday, July 15, 2021 surrounded by her family. A private family mass and Christian burial will be celebrated at a later date.

Bev was born to Albert and Rose (Gallagher) Schwartz on Dec. 16, 1927 in Fort Dodge. She grew up in Auburn, and graduated from Auburn High School with the class of 1946. On June 20th, 1950 Bev was united in marriage to Don Bernholtz at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Auburn and the couple grew their family and spent their life together in the Lake City area.

Bev worked at Stewart Memorial Hospital as a nurse’s assistant for 33 years. She was a devout member of St. Mary’s Parish. Bev enjoyed baking, gardening, quilting, reading, and was a member of many clubs and organizations. She was a very social person and made friends wherever she went. Bev had a gift of making people feel special and loved. She was so interested in everything they had going on in their lives and loved hearing about it.

Bev is survived by her children Susie (Daryl) Reiling of Carroll, Tom (Darel) Bernholtz of Denison, Ann (Jeff) Wenck of Lidderdale, Kris (Scott) Bender of Spencer, 12 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, and sister-in-law Mary (Darrell) Heuton.

Preceded in death by her husband Don in 2013, son Steve in 2009, daughter-in-law Casey in 2008, brother Bob Schwartz, sisters-in-law Marge Schwartz, Esther Galbraith, Doris Determan, and brother-in-law Duane Bernholtz.
