Betty Lou Kolbe

Betty Lou Kolbe, 93, died on Sunday, Jan. 23, 2022 at Thomas Rest Haven in Coon Rapids.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 27, at the United Methodist Church in Carroll with Pastor Cindy Johnson officiating and burial in the Lake City Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Lampe & Powers Funeral Home in Lake City is assisting the family.

Betty Lou (Schug) Kolbe was born on Jan. 30, 1928, in Lake City, Iowa, to Ernest and Viola (Davis) Schug. She graduated from Lake City High School in 1946. On July 18, 1946, Betty married Eugene Kolbe at the Lutheran Church in Lake City. The couple celebrated 66 years of marriage before Eugene’s death in 2013.

Over the years, Betty worked at a sale barn and also in the laundry department at St. Anthony’s Nursing Home for many years before retiring in 2000. Betty enjoyed playing cards and jigsaw puzzles and especially loved spending time with her sisters.

Betty is survived by her children Roger Kolbe of Coon Rapids, Kathy Fish of Plymouth, Minnesota, and Randy (Kris) Kolbe of Solon; daughter-in-law Judy Kolbe of Arvada, Colorado; seven grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and several great-great-grandchildren; and sisters Wanda Schuneman, and Dee Ann Pretty. She was preceded in death by her parents Ernest and Viola Schug; husband Eugene Kolbe; son Kelly Kolbe; son-in-law Don Fish; grandson Dana Fish; and sister Bonnie Schug.
