A man with strong family ties to Lake City, and who happens to be one of two Iowa residents selected for the Special Olympics World Games this year, participated in this year’s Western Days parade.
Patrick Gulbranson, 27, is set to head to Los Angeles to compete in one of his favorite sports – bowling – at the international event. Gulbranson, who lives in Stuart, is the son of John and Harriet Gulbranson and grandson of the late Lyle and Alice Gulbranson. His care provider, Sarah Messinger, is also from Lake City, Harriet Gulbranson told The Graphic-Advocate prior to the parade. Patrick has attended Western Days in the past to watch his cousins participate and spend time with Messinger’s family, and was thrilled to be invited to walk in the parade, Harriet said.
“This whole journey has been really great,” she said.
