Randy Martin found it fitting that the Urbandale Library would name a room dedicated for conversation and community gatherings for his son, Justin.

Justin Martin, an Urbandale police officer and Rockwell City native, was shot and killed in November while on duty. The Urbandale Library hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony April 11; Randy and his wife, Jayne, attended the ceremony and cut the ribbon officially opening the room.

“Justin was a reader,” Randy Martin said April 12. “He liked to read.”

And, when Justin was on patrol, the quiet young man would often stop and talk with Urbandale residents he saw outside, especially late at night, Randy Martin said.
